Won JONG is a composer whose practice inhabits the resonant valences of negative space and quietude. His work examines how the attenuation of sound can function as an active dramaturgical force, creating ruminative experiences through live performance that challenge conventional conceptions of musical presence and listening.

Jong’s works have been performed by ensembles such as Yarn/Wire, ekmeles, ensemble PHACE, and TAK Ensemble. In addition, Jong frequently extends his line of work to interdisciplinary collaborations with various artists, filmmakers, and choreographers.

A recipient of Columbia University’s Charles S. Miller Award and the Boris and Eda Rapoport Prize, Jong graduated with honors from Columbia College with a B.A. in music. He has studied with Marcos Balter, Zosha Di Castri, Georg Friedrich Haas, and privately with Evan Johnson.
